ReplyDeleteStanhopes new special "Beer Hall Putsch" is now out on amazon and itunes outside the US! It's awesome. He has a great Jake LaMotta story in there that's even funnier after hearing him on the show.
ReplyDeleteI bought it today (big ups to Amazon MP3) and listened to it. It is pretty decent. The Lamotta story parallels what happened in the O&A interview. He didn't seem totally out of it, though. He was answering questions and even commented that he knew he made that diabetes joke multiple times (which I don't know what to make of). It sheds a little more light on his relationship with the nice woman. I get the feeling she is a former trophy wife that is older and can't really hack it anymore so she did what she could and is using Jake to make (what I can only assume doesn't go beyond) a modest living.
DeleteAs for the comedy, I do like that Stanhope killed his Mother, I don't like that he charged $10K to her credit card. It is naive to think he hurt the bank, as with any type of fraud they pass the costs for that on to the consumers, or if they get really lucky the taxpayer. I'm not sure what to make about his extended bit about raping a football player. It is just odd to me as I didn't think a contrarian guy like Stanhope would even be into football.
So Anthony's GTA disc didn't work and now he is having an intern go out to get him a copy game. He jokes by calling them "nameless and faceless" which is all in good fun, but he really is making someone run an errand for him that isn't getting paid and is supposed to be getting college credit. You can get an idea of how much of a dirtbag someone is by what they openly admin (like all the traffic violations and getting favors from cops). I don't think he is particularly honest, he is just detached and what he tells is probably just the surface of what he really does.
ReplyDeleteNow if it turns out he is slipping them a little something (20 bucks in a male intens case, dick for the females) then I guess it is acceptable. He does say he is a big tipper, at least when on a roll at the tables.
Deletewell, from years of listening, i've gathered a few things about ant an op... on air, anthony has always been the fan favorite, but he is a complete ass and opie would be the one that would remember your name and actually get to know you. but opie is extremely tight with his money and will welch (welsh?) on any bet, while anthony will give freely.
Deletei have no doubt anthony is a dick to the interns and staff, but also that he'll tip because he is incapable of expressing emotional gratitude. and i'm sure opie is nice to everyone, even the subhumans that come in, once the mics turn off.

Anthony can be very genial on the air and comes across as the guy people want to have a beer with, but he seems like a sociopath. He doesn't seem to care about anyone, of course there are contradictions, but there is a lot of evidence for this. For example, whether you agree with him on taxes or not (I do, at times), he rants and raves about how he needs more money because he is a business owner and creates jobs (i.e. pays Mexicans to take care of his lawn) and he needs to pay for his lonely mansion. He doesn't care at all about future generations and thinks nothing of spending thousands a month of utilities to keep his hot tub boiling in October. Just because you have the money to do something it doesn't make it sensible. Al Gore is somewhere in his mansion shedding a solitary tear...

ReplyDeleteSome of the comments here make assumptions such as that the interns are just standing around idly and also that it takes only 5 minutes to go out and run personal a errand for a host. While this type of thing is happening who is getting breakfast and standing at the beck and call of the hosts to satisfy their whims? Is this what caused the one intern to confuse raspberries with strawberries which ruined Norton's day?
DeleteI'll put the question of Anthony being garbage aside (alright, I can't resist bringing up the fact he works 4 hours a day and can easily get his own game on his way home or that he could have even ordered it yesterday and got 1 day shipping from any online retailer.). I have a problem with the whole internship system. I put myself in the shoes of an intern who isn't getting paid and is earning college credit to learn. I don't even see how getting breakfast being one of the main job responsibilities is accepted by the interns and presumably whoever advises the program both for Sirius and the schools (however that works). Fight the power, interns rise up and strike down the coffee divas, the blueberry divas, and all those in power who would waste your time.
